> I’ve been scanning and editing a small collection of snapshot of the Chazz Cats - a San Francisco Based, Good Time, Swing Jazz, Boogie-Woogie Blues Band that I played with from 1994 till we called it quits around 2002.
The Band got going when Charlie Casey and I met at a party at Ocean Beach way back around September of 1994. He subsequently began to open my mind, ears and fingers to a small portion of the great American song-book with a crash course in playing real book jazz standards, swing and blues.
Following the recording of a cassette based EP and following a few personnel changes we solidified the band by integrating the amazingly talented singer, Pam Brandon and her double bass slappin’ pal Tom Drohan after we met them at the (now defunct) Owl and Monkey Cafe in the Sunset District. We also integrated the room-lifting sax and clarinet playing of Greg Laakso and the stand-up drumming of Doc Ward. Pete Cornell also joined in on the fun a few years in and helped us out with sax, flute and horn arrangements.
